My Help Mate

It is so important to have a strong support system when you are dealing with a life long disease.  My fiance has been there for me in so many ways. He has lobbied on the hill to get more funding for preventive care. He has gotten up in the middle of the night to get me candy so that my low blood sugar would rise to a safe zone. He has come with me to diabetes functions to learn more about the disease.
I was speaking at a diabetes camp two years ago and Donovan was with me. A mother of a young type 1 diabetic burst into tears because she saw the support my then boyfriend was giving me. She said it gives her hope that her daughter will find someone who will be able to deal with the disease her daughter has and love her.

CGM can save my life

I was able to have a continuous glucose monitor for a month in a half because a dear friend upgraded and gave me her old one with about 6 sensors left. The CGM checks your blood sugar levels every 5 minutes and creates a 24 hour graph showing you a general snap shot of what your blood is doing. My A1C was 9.4 after a month with the CGM my A1C went down to 8.8 I am on my way to my goal of 7. When Obama care passes It is my hope that I would then be eligible to receive a CGM.
